Male Cosmetic Surgery

Request a Consultation

Male plastic surgery refers to cosmetic procedures tailored specifically to the needs and goals of men. While many techniques are similar to those used for women, male patients often seek more defined, angular, and athletic contours, as well as natural-looking facial rejuvenation that preserves a masculine appearance.

Dr. Colton McNichols offers a range of plastic surgery procedures for men in Pueblo, Colorado to help refine, rejuvenate, and masculinize both body and face so that you can look and feel completely confident in your body.

Treatment Options

Here are some of the most common male plastic surgery procedures that Dr. McNichols offers:

01

Liposuction for Men

Male liposuction can remove stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. For men, popular treatment areas include the abdomen, flanks (“love handles”), chest, and back. For the procedure, small incisions are made in discreet locations, and a thin tube (cannula) is used to gently suction out excess fat. In so doing, liposuction can refine and contour the body while preserving a natural, masculine shape.

02

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)

Male breast reduction surgery removes excess glandular tissue and fat from the chest to create a flatter, firmer, and more masculine contour. Depending on the individual case, the procedure may involve liposuction, direct excision of breast tissue, or a combination of both techniques. Incisions are placed discreetly to minimize visible scarring, with the goal of restoring a natural-looking chest shape.

03

Tummy Tuck for Men (Abdominoplasty)

A male tummy tuck addresses loose or excess abdominal skin and weakened abdominal muscles, commonly caused by significant weight loss or aging. During the procedure, excess skin and fat are removed from the abdomen, and the underlying muscles are tightened to create a flatter, firmer midsection. This procedure often helps men look younger, fitter, and more athletic, especially for men who are burdened by excess skin and persistent fat after having lost a large amount of weight.

04

Facelift for Men

A facelift for men is designed to reduce visible signs of aging in the lower face and neck while preserving a natural, masculine look. Incisions are typically placed around the ears and within the hairline, through which the surgeon tightens the underlying tissues, repositions facial structures, and removes excess skin. The result is a smoother jawline, reduced jowls, and a firmer neck. Male plastic surgery is highly individualized. During your consultation, Dr. McNichols will discuss your concerns, examine your anatomy, and recommend a surgical plan that may include one or multiple procedures for more comprehensive results.

Candidates

You may be a candidate for male plastic surgery if:

  • You have stubborn fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise
  • You are bothered by excess chest tissue or fullness that does not improve with weight loss or exercise
  • You have loose or excess skin on your abdomen, face, or neck
  • You are bothered by signs of aging, such as jowls, deep facial creases, or a sagging neck
  • You are in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the outcome
  • You are a non-smoker (or are willing to quit prior to surgery)

Ideal candidates should also be at or near a stable weight, as significant weight fluctuations can affect the results of body contouring procedures.

Recovery

Recovery from cosmetic surgery varies depending on the specific procedures performed. In general, here is what you can expect:

  1. Immediate Post-Operative Care

After surgery, you will be monitored in a recovery area before being discharged home. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours. Depending on the procedure, dressings or compression garments may be applied to help minimize swelling and support the treated areas.

  2. First Week

Most of this week will be resting and healing. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common; these symptoms can be managed with prescribed medications. You will be advised to avoid strenuous activity and follow specific instructions regarding incision care, sleeping position, and use of compression garments.

  3. Resuming Activities

Many patients can return to light activities and non-strenuous work within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the procedure(s) performed and the nature of their job. More demanding physical activity, such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise, should typically be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks or until cleared by Dr. McNichols.

  4. Long-Term Recovery

After the initial 7 to 10 days of downtime, most patients are ready to resume general activities (except strenuous exercise). Bruising, soreness, and swelling generally improve over the first several weeks, but full recovery can take weeks to months as the body adjusts, tissues settle, and incisions mature. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled so that Dr. McNichols can monitor your healing and address any questions or concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most common plastic surgery procedures for men?

Some of the most common cosmetic procedures for men include liposuction, gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction), tummy tuck surgery (especially after weight loss), and facelift surgery.

Will I look “overdone” after surgery?

The goal of male plastic surgery is to achieve natural-looking, masculine results. Procedures are carefully planned to enhance your features without making you look drastically different or “overdone.” You should look like yourself—just more refreshed, fit, and confident.

Can multiple procedures be performed at the same time?

Yes. In many cases, procedures can be combined for more comprehensive rejuvenation. Combining procedures can also reduce overall recovery time compared to having separate surgeries. Whether combining procedures is appropriate for you will depend on your health, goals, and the extent of correction needed.

How long will the results last?

The longevity of your results will depend on the procedures performed, your lifestyle, and the natural aging process. While surgery cannot stop aging, it can significantly turn back the clock and improve your baseline appearance. Maintaining a stable weight, living a healthy lifestyle, and protecting your skin from sun damage should help you enjoy your results for many years.

Is male plastic surgery right for me?

If you are bothered by specific aspects of your appearance—such as stubborn fat, loose skin, or facial aging—and you are in good health with realistic expectations, male plastic surgery may be an excellent choice for you. A consultation with Dr. McNichols is the best way to learn which procedures could help you achieve your goals.
