Breast Augmentation

Request a Consultation

Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure that can enhance the size, shape, and overall appearance of the breasts. Whether you’re looking to restore volume lost after pregnancy, achieve better symmetry, or simply boost your confidence, breast augmentation offers a personalized solution to meet your unique goals.

About the Procedure

Breast augmentation is a highly customizable procedure that can be adapted to meet your specific needs.

01

Implant Type

You can choose between saline or silicone implants. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, while silicone implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel. Each has unique advantages; for example, saline implants are more affordable and silicone implants more closely mimic the feel of natural breast tissue.

02

Incision Placement

Incisions can be made beneath the breast (inframammary), around the nipple (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary). The choice of incision depends on the type of implant used, your anatomy, and your preferences.

03

Implant Placement

Implants can be placed either above or below the pectoral muscle. Submuscular placement often results in a more natural appearance, but it can lead to a longer recovery. We will discuss the details of your procedure in detail to ensure the surgical approach aligns with your goals and desired outcome.

Candidates

You may be a candidate for breast augmentation if:

  • You are unhappy with the size or shape of your breasts
  • You’ve experienced changes in breast volume or shape due to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations
  • You’d like a more proportionate figure or improved breast symmetry
  • You are in good overall health and have realistic expectations
  • You are a non-smoker (or you are willing to quit prior to surgery)

Candidates must also be not currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

Recovery

Recovery from breast augmentation varies from patient to patient. In general, here’s what you can expect:

  1. Immediate Post-Operative Care

After surgery, you’ll be monitored in a recovery room before being discharged. You’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 to 48 hours.

  2. First Week

Most of this week will be resting and healing. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common; these symptoms can be managed with prescribed medications. You’ll be advised to wear a special support bra to minimize swelling and support your new breast shape. Patients may be able to return to work after approximately 7 to 10 days.

  3. Resuming Activities

Light activities can generally be resumed within a week. Strenuous activities, especially those involving the upper body, should continue to be avoided for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

  4. Long-Term Recovery

After the initial 7 to 10 days of downtime, most patients are ready to resume general activities (except strenuous exercise) but may still have some bruising, soreness, and swelling. Full recovery can take several weeks to months as the implants settle into place and your body adjusts to the changes. Regular follow-up appointments will ensure your recovery is progressing as expected.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do breast implants last?

Breast implants are designed to last many years, but they are not lifetime devices. Implants may need to be replaced after 10 to 15 years, although many patients keep theirs much longer without issues.

Are there risks associated with breast augmentation?

As with any major surgery, there are risks involved with breast augmentation. However, choosing a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon can significantly reduce the risks. The risks of this procedure will be discussed with you in detail beforehand.

Can I combine breast augmentation with other procedures?

Yes, breast augmentation can be combined with other procedures. It is commonly combined with breast lift surgery or tummy tuck surgery (as in a Mommy Makeover) to produce more comprehensive results.

How do I choose the right implant size?

Choosing the right implant size is a personal decision that depends on your body proportions, natural breast tissue, and aesthetic goals. During your consultation, we will use sizers and imaging technology to help you visualize different sizes and make an informed choice.

What should I expect for my breast augmentation scars?

Scarring is unavoidable after major surgery, and it’s a natural part of the healing process. The incision lines are usually placed in discreet areas (such as under the breast fold or around the areola) to make them less noticeable. Your scars may initially appear red or pink but will fade over time, typically becoming lighter and less noticeable within one year. Carefully following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions, including protecting your scars from sun exposure and using recommended topical treatments, can help improve their appearance as they heal.
